SSD: How long have you been designing?  How did you start?

AC: Since I was a child I have always been designing, drawing in notebooks, making clothes for my dolls and getting inspired by famous designers.

SSD: What Inspired you to become a designer?

AC: Since the first moment I knew Coco Chanel‘s bio I felt attracted to it strongly. I loved how she changed fashion history, making women feel free, empowered and elegant through clothes. She inspired me to become a fashion designer. 

SSD: How have Your Culture influenced your vision for your collections?

AC: I’m from Colombia and we are rich in cultural diversity, nature and climates. This not only give me inspiration but also the opportunity to show my roots through my clothes. 

SSD: Fashion Designers are often influenced by another designer.  Would you say that is true about you?  If so, what designer have influenced your creative vision. 

AC: Yes, I feel influenced by Silvia Tcherassi, Coco Chanel, Alexander McQueen, Esteban Cortázar and Johana Ortiz. 

SSD: Describe the woman that would wear your clothing:

AC: My muse is a woman who wants to get ahead with her projects, her goals and dreams; and despite the adversity and the obstacles that life brings, she feels empowered, self-confident and beautiful wearing Ana Cortes designs. 

SSD: Describe your current collection.  What colors, textures, fabrics, patterns will for this season?

AC: The Voice Up S/S 2020 collection brings a lot of colors, different silhouettes and fabrics that combined together will create a feminine, modern and elegant look. You can find a mix between light and medium-heavy fabrics, solids colors like yellow, lavender, classic blue and light blue that create the perfect combination for a modern women. And as a final touch, you’ll find crystal details in some garments to make you shine like a diamond!!

SSD: One of the questions being asked to the industry is whether there “fashion weeks” should continue or not?  What are your thoughts? 

AC: As an emerging designer I believe that fashion weeks are one of the best ways for us to showcase our ideas and creations. For me, personally, it is a great opportunity to show my designs and therefore be part of the fashion industry. 

SSD: What do you love the most about participating in fashion week?

AC: What I love the most is that I’m not only able to show my designs but also see how different type of people get together to an event that brings new creations and talent.
