I Still Love Hip Hop: Karl Kani 24′

I grew up in the nineties.  Actually, I spent my teen years in the nineties. Being Black and from Brooklyn, Karl Kani at the time, was on of the hottest urban wear designers.  We all wanted the clothes, both boys and girls.  Today as street wear is emerging on a new frontier in fashion, it was pleasing to see that Karl Kani featured his collection in my back yard, right here in Miami at Miami Fashion Week. This year, Karl Kani revisions some of his styles from 1989.

“…that’s when it hit me, I need to start branding my name….Can I, was a question I used to ask myself all the time.  Can I be successful? Can I enter the scene, build a brand and be successful? Can I come from the inner city and build a brand to be worldwide.  I didn’t know the answer to those questions… but I knew if I called my self “KANI” I would have to answer that question, yes I can!” – Karl Kani

Kani’s latest collection was a vibrant tribute to the cultural dynamism of Miami, skillfully blended with his signature urban flair. The color palette dominated by striking hues of red, yellow, and electric blue. THe collection showcases an edgy combination of high-end street style complemented by furs, knits, including newsprints and Kani’s iconic logo motifs.  As the nineties seems to be Gen Z’s muse, Kani brings back his classic wide legged pants and matching loose fitting jackets.

The fusion of Miami’s lively spirit with Karl Kani’s urban sensibility defined this collection. It was a connecting two worlds, where the relaxed vibes of Miami met the raw energy of urban life, resulting in a collection that resonated with nothing but kewl.
