A Chromatic Wonderland: Maison Margiela Couture 24′

John Galliano raises the bar as the 2024 runway show for the “Artisanal Collection” for Maison Margiela leaves the crowd in awe.  John Galliano is celebrated for his avant-garde and couture creations. The chosen location for Maison Margiela’s 2024 showing, nestled beneath the historic streets of Paris, added an edgy undercurrent to the collection.

The porcelain doll style makeup on the models was a by the iconic Pat McGrath.  The makeup was a symphony of soft pinks, delicate pastels, and rosy hues. Eyes were wide and innocent, lips whispered secrets, and skin as smooth and flawless as glass.

“One technique is dubbed “emotional cutting,” which entails imbuing garments “with the unconscious gestures that shape our expressions: a caban pulled over the head in the rain, a lapel raised to cover the face, a trouser hoicked up to evade a water puddle.” – WWD

The appearance of Gwendoline Christie, the ethereal actress known for her enigmatic presence, was a showstopper. Christie effortlessly embodied the spirit of Maison Margiela’s 2024 collection.

Galliano’s collection paid homage to the unfiltered allure concealed beneath the surface, echoing the enigmatic underbelly of the “Dirty Thirties” Parisian streets. The collection itself, featured sheer dresses, short and extremely small waisted corsets, extravagant trench coats, crumpled street urchin suits and Jessica Rabbit shaped siren dresses.

As the fashion world eagerly awaits the next chapter in Maison Margiela’s artistic journey, the 2024 showing remains etched in memory as an artistic presentation reminding us that real fashion shows are BACK.
